Take your rock climbing skills and technique to the next level with the Intermediate Rock Climbing Course. You and your guide will find routes to expand your abilities – generally longer and more difficult climbs than you’ve done in the past. You’ll also learn about rock protection – from camming devices to stoppers – and anchor systems for multipitch rock climbing. Your day will culminate in an ascent of a multipitch route so that you experience the thrill and commitment of getting high off the ground in technical climbing terrain.
We have been guiding experienced climbers at Smith Rock for over thirty years. This knowledge gives us the unique ability to identify the best routes for your individual experience level. They’ll help you build the climbing skills and techniques that will help you reach that next difficulty grade and become more efficient so that you can take on longer, more challenging climbs. This course is perfect for building up to longer climbing routes, like those found in Red Rocks, and are a great foundation for alpine rock climbing on objectives in the North Cascades.
Skills and Techniques that you’ll build during this course:
- Advanced footwork and use of handholds
- Using rock protection: cams and chocks
- Efficient multi-pitch transitions
- Anchor evaluation
You’ll learn the above and more in areas like the Smith Rock Group, where we may climb routes like:
- Wherever I May Roam
- White Satin
